Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

Over 200 students from ADNOC Schools and Emirates National Schools in Abu Dhabi have shown interest to be more involved with science-related subjects and curriculums, after having successfully attended more than 12 sessions of Borouge’s ‘Polymers on the Move’ programme throughout the 2016/2017 academic year.

Held at the Borouge Innovation Centre in Sas Al Nakhl in Abu Dhabi, the science-based programme, specifically targeting 8th graders, provided the students with information on the benefits and nature of plastics and engaged them through an interactive experiments and a tours at the Innovation Centre on the useful and sustainable properties of plastics compared to other materials.

"Having students engaged in experiments at the Borouge Innovation Centre brings a fresh young dimension to the environment and emphasises that innovation of the future will stem from the bright minds we stimulate and educate today," said Abdulrahman Al Ateek, Acting Senior Vice President Corporate Affairs, Borouge.

"This programme is in line with the UAE vision 2021 to enhance STEM-based studies (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) that contribute to building a knowledge-based economy and we look forward to engaging with many students in the future," said Maitha Al Marashi, Corporate Social Responsibility Advisor, Borouge.

Borouge launched the programme in 2016 as part of the its 2030 strategy, in line with its corporate social responsibility, CSR, to further enhance involvement with the community, and encourage the learning of science amongst the youth so that they plan for future career opportunities in the oil and gas and downstream petrochemicals and plastics industries.

"The session at the Borouge Centre has changed my mind and perception about plastics," said Dania, one of the students who participated in the programme. "Learning science here is fun! I wish all our science classes at school were like this," said Abdulla, another student.
