The Indonesian nation has extended sympathy with the victims of a bomb attack at Ataturk Airport in Turkey on Tuesday night.

"Humanity has again got torn. We express our deep sympathy with the victims of a suicide bomb attack at Ataturk Airport in Turkey. The world must be united to fight terrorism," President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) tweeted on the Twitter social media on Wednesday morning.

According to the press statement from the presidential communication team, Jokowi condemned the bomb attack which killed 28 people and wounded dozens more.

The Indonesian consulate general in Istanbul said it had not received a report of Indonesians falling victim to the bomb attack.

"We have not received a report of Indonesian falling victim to the attack. The Indonesian consulate general in Istanbul has assigned any of its staff members to monitor the latest situation at the Ataturk Airport, coordinate with the local authorities and the Indonesian community in Istanbul and trace the possibility of Indonesian falling victim to the bomb attack," the consulate general said in a press statement released on Wednesday.

The Indonesian embassy in Turkey earlier called on Indonesian citizens in the country to increase vigilance in the wake of the bomb attack.

Nearly 728 Indonesians currently live in Turkey and 310 of them are students and the rest are migrant workers.

Reuters reported three suicide bombers opened fire before blowing themselves up at the entrance to the main international airport in Istanbul on Tuesday, killing 28 people and wounding dozens more, the provincial governor said.

Police fired shots to try to stop two of the attackers just before they reached a security checkpoint at the arrivals hall at Ataturk airport, Europes third-busiest, but they blew themselves up, the news agency quoted a second Turkish official as saying.
