New York - UPI

The use of Internet-enabled televisions is on the rise in the United States, more than doubling in a year, a Nielsen survey found. As of February, 10.4 percent of all TV homes had an IPTV, or Internet Protocol TV, compared to just 4.4 percent one year earlier, the survey found. "[IPTV] has grown dramatically over the course of the last year," said Pat McDonough, senior vice president of insights analysis and policy for Nielsen. "People talk about 'the TV is dead, or that it's dying,' but it doesn't look like it yet." Non-traditional TV viewing options from Internet-connected sources will continue to grow, Nielsen said, and unlike other TV-video related technologies IPTV functions are being built directly into televisions, Media Daily News reported. Other TV-related devices were included in the survey, and DVRs now appear in 44 percent of homes, 80 percent higher since 2007.
