Islamic summit
Ramallah - WAFA

The three major Palestinian dailies focused on the Jakarta-based Islamic summit and its recommendations.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that the Islamic summit declared its support for an international peace conference, and called on member states to fund the private sector in Jerusalem. The conference also called for banning settlements products.

In its main news story, al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted President Mahmoud Abbas, who said that, “Jerusalem has never been at danger like today.”

Meanwhile, the three dailies also reported that Israeli forces detained a Palestinian young woman near Jerusalem, after she allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli guard.

Al-Quds, al-Hayat Al-Jadida and al-Ayyam said that the European Union denied media reports that it has suspended its funding to the Palestinian Authority.

The three dailies also focused on the public teachers strike.

Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that public teachers organized a sit-in outside the Council of Ministers headquarters in Ramallah.

Al-Ayyam reported that Avigdor Lieberman, Israel’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs, declared he will only join the government coalition if the government approves the construction of 2,000 housing units in the illegal settlement of Ma’ale Adumim, east of Jerusalem

Al-Quds reported that Israeli settlers recently started to organize “wedding” and “puberty” parties at al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem, the third holiest place in Islam.
