Ramallah - WAFA

The Israeli decision to drop probe into the killing of a pregnant Palestinian woman and her teenage brother at Qalandiya checkpoint and Haaretz report that Israeli forces abused three Palestinian minors hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies.

Al-Quds reported that Israeli Police Investigation Unit “Mahash” decided to drop probe into the killing of Maram Abu-Isma'il, 23, and her brother, Ibrahim, 16, at Qalandiya checkpoint, north of Jerusalem. The three dailies reported that the police unit acquitted the murderers.

Highlighting that the Israeli who shot and killed Maram and Ibrahim was a privately-contracted security guard, al-Ayyam reported the security contractor company as claiming that the guard did his job in accordance to rules.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Maram and Ibrahim’s father, Saleh, as announcing that his daughter and son were not deaf. He was also reported as calling for an impartial probe to be opened into the killing as well as for a security surveillance camera footage of the shooting to be released.

The Haaretz report about Israeli soldiers abuse of three Palestinian minors also hit the front page headlines in the dailies.

Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that soldiers abused three minors from Gaza for three days, stubbing out cigarettes on their bodies, cursing them and depriving them from sleep.

Al-Quds reported that Israel has been making contacts with European capitals in order to pre-empt the French bid to hold an international Middle East peace conference.

Highlighting the situation in Jerusalem, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that an Israeli settler was allegedly stabbed and lightly injured in Jerusalem.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported that Jewish extremist settlers forced their way into Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and that Israeli forces posted demolition orders for residential and commercial structures in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya.

Regarding the Knesset bill proposing the annexation of the West Bank to Israel, al-Quds reported that Palestinians have angrily reacted to and warned about the consequences of this bill.

Highlighting a Fatah Central Committee’s meeting following media reports about the proposed bill, al-Quds reported Fatah Central Committee member Jibril Rajoub as stating that the committee has recommended that the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee severs security ties with Israel.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó as stating that bringing about the two-state solution underlies ending Middle East violence.
