Rabat - Arab Today

In a video posted on her official Facebook page Tuesday, Moroccan Chaabi singer and songwriter Najat Aâtabou urges King Mohammed VI to hold public officials accountable in the city of Khemisset, who she said “fail to fulfill their duties.”

Aâtabou accuses the municipal council in Khemisset of corruption and theft of public funds. The singer displays the city’s miserable conditions and shows deteriorated basic infrastructure including roads, children’s parks, and natural spaces.

“We have an invisible mayor in this town” states Aâtabou, making reference to the apparent absence of authorities.

The Chaabi singer calls for Moroccan authorities to build a university in the city, stating that students are forced to leave their city and travel long distances to continue their higher education.

The famous singer, originally from Khemisset, says that the area is known for its women’ handcraft carpets, and that more should be done to promote local products and provide them to international market.

Aâtabou points out that citizens are ready and prepared to help combating corruption in their country.
