London - AFP

Indian-owned luxury car company Jaguar said Friday it was recalling almost 18,000 cars in Britain due to a problem with cruise control mechanisms. The problem affects diesel-engined X-type models manufactured from 2006 to 2010. Customers have received letters saying that, in some circumstances, the cruise control, if engaged, cannot be disengaged in the normal manner. The letter explains that turning off the ignition will cancel the cruise control function. A total of 17,678 Jaguar cars in Britain are involved in the recall. A Jaguar spokesman said: "This potential problem was spotted by one of our employees. No customer has been affected and there have been no accidents or injuries." Jaguar and Land Rover were acquired by India's leading vehicle maker Tata Motors from Ford for $2.3 billion (1.7 billion euros) in 2008.
