Abu Dhabi - Arabstoday

The Directorate of Traffic and Patrols of Abu Dhabi Police has impounded as many as 268 motor vehicles in Abu Dhabi supported with illegally modified power boosters which enhance a car’s speed and amplify the engine sound. The traffic directorate also slapped each driver with a fine of Dh900.The Abu Dhabi police had granted motorists, whose cars were illegally fitted with modified engines, a grace period till June 10, during which time they could remove such added devices. Brigadier Engineer Hussain Ahmed Al Harthi, Director of the directorate, believed that irresponsible youth were modifying the engine power to augment the engine’s sound and boost speed to show off. “This is nothing but a wrong manner practiced at an incorrect place,” said Al Harthi. “It is a shortcut to death and getting injured means sustaining physical disability and a deformity, at a time when the country exerts utmost efforts to maintain its human resources, of which young people account for the major part.” Brig Al Harthi pointed out that the improper electrical extension made to engines by unprofessional persons, who are in fact unaware of the simple safety rules could double the risk of a car catching fire. The car can also explode due to a short circuit and put the life of the driver and those around him in danger, Al Harthi explained.from khaleej times.
