Lancaster - UPI
Six inches of rain early Monday caused flooding in northern South Carolina, emergency response officials said. Thunderstorms passing through Lancaster County, S.C., about 60 miles north of the capitol Columbia, flooded roads and required some motorists to flee their vehicles to avoid being trapped, the Charlotte Observer reported. A second line of storms is expected to pass through the area in the middle of the afternoon dropping another two inches, forecasters said, potentially worsening the flooding. Northern Lancaster County and eastern York County were hardest hit, meteorologists said, when between six and eight inches fell from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. Three motorists had to be rescued from their vehicles and dozens of roads were temporarily closed, the newspaper reported.
