Minister Khaled fahmi
Cairo - MENA

Environment Minister Khaled Fahmi will head for Paris on Sunday to attend the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21), due to be held on November 30 to December 11.

In statements to MENA on Saturday, Fahmi said Egypt has taken - ahead of the conference - several strides and has laid an ambitious sustainable development plan for saving 30 percent of its energy and realizing 7 percent of annual growth rate.

Egypt has also started implementing projects for the poor in the health and education scores and linking them to the climate change policies, he said.

He underlined the importance of rendering the Paris gathering successful and reaching an agreement, taking into consideration the African states' right for development as they are the most affected by climate change although they are the least countries behind pollutants which caused climate change.

The conference's objective is to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, from all the nations of the world. Leadership of the negotiations is yet to be determined.
