Moscow - KUNA

Russia and Jordan on Monday signed an agreement to build a nuclear power plant in Zarqa city, to the south of Amman.
Russia won the bid last year to implement the nuclear power plant at the cost of USD 10 billion, ITAR-TASS News Agency reported, citing sources at Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation here.
The deal was inked by the Director General of Rusatom Overseas Jomart Aliyev and the chief of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Khaled Toukan on the sidelines of the Annual International Atomic Energy Agency General Conference in Vienna.
The deal stipulates setting obligations of each side during implementing the first phase of the scheme which includes establishing two nuclear plants to produce 2,000 megawatts, according to the IRAT-RASS. The project meets the demands of the electric power of Jordan's people that could be exported to neighboring countries such as Syria and Iraq, noted the Russian agency. Rusatom Overseas is a Rosatom affiliate that specializes in the promotion of the corporation's projects abroad.
