President: Vietnam to build nuclear power plant as planned

Vietnam is to start constructing an atomic powerstation this year with the assistance of Japan, dpa quoted President Truong TanSang as saying in an interview with the Nikkei business dailypublishedTuesday.Thevisiting president brushed off speculation that the constructionof Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Plant No 2 would not start on time due tofinancing difficulties and delays in passing the necessarylegislation."It is Vietnam's consistent policy to use and develop atomic energyfor peaceful purposes and for socioeconomic development," Sang said.
