Most of EU''s renewable energy comes from wood

Wood and wood waste contributed five percent to the total gross inland energy consumption in the 27-member EU, leading as a source of renewable energy and accounting to almost half of the EU's consumption of renewable, it was reported here Thursday. According to a report by Eurostat, the EU's statistical office, published today, among the EU Member States, the highest shares of wood and wood waste in total gross inland energy consumption in 2010 were recorded in Latvia (27pct), Finland (21pct) and Sweden (19pct), while it was one percent or less in Cyprus, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom.
