Federal Authority for Electricity and Water
Dubai - WAM

The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and the Federal Authority for Electricity and Water (FEWA) have signed a joint co-operative agreement for developing an advanced system for Federal Spatial Data Infrastructure (FSDI) that is rich in spatial and descriptive data for effective designing, planning, implementing and managing projects under the UAE Vision 2021 National Agenda.

A spatial data infrastructure (SDI) is a data infrastructure implementing a framework of geographic data, metadata, users and tools that are interactively connected in order to use spatial data in an efficient and flexible way.

Signed by Zahra Al Oboudi, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, and Mohammed Mohammed Saleh, Director-General of FEWA, in attendance of Dr. Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, the agreement will see the two parties share expertise, information and resources.

The agreement was signed in implementation of the resolution issued by the Ministerial Council for Services in 2014 directing the Ministry of Infrastructure Development to co-ordinate with other federal and local government authorities to modernise the comprehensive plan for federal buildings and developing regions for 2030 and update the Geographical Information System (GIS) by establishing the FSDI programme.

Al Oboudi said the partnership with the ministry would facilitate implementation of federal projects on schedule within the limit of allocated budgets. ''It will also regulate and streamline procedures for project implementation in a way that serves the community by improving quality of life and achieve a balanced sustainable development,'' she added.

Mohammed Saleh said FEWA was committed to providing the ministry with all its future needs as per plans.

He affirmed FEWA's readiness to study proposals that aim at improving joint co-operation mechanisms in order to serve core goals.
