Tehran - Irna

Iran's Ambassador and permanent representative in the International Atomic Energy Agency ( IAEA) Ali Asghar Soltanieh said that chief of the watchdog body will see consequences of his historical mistake. He made the remark in reaction to the new report of the IAEA General Director Yukiya Amano while speaking to IRNA in the IAEA headquarter here Tuesday evening. He stressed that Amano has violated the charter of the international agency. Soltanieh said the IAEA has also damaged the atmosphere of cooperation within the agency and paved the way for confrontations between the members and the chairman of the body. He stressed that Amano is fully responsible for his historical mistake. He described the new IAEA report on Iran as imbalanced, non-professional and politically-motivated and added that in spite of warnings by the Non-Aligned Movement members states, China and Russia, the director general insisted on his own views and decided to rely on 'false claims' of such countries as the USA for his report. Soltanieh noted that the report contained nothing new while in the past few years, too, Iran has denied such claims in a documented 117-page reply. However, he added, the very act of publishing claims against a country in a public report, stood in contrast with the 'principle of protecting countries' information.' Soltanieh continued that Mr. Amano handed over the documents on the claim studies to five members of the UN Security Council, an act which clearly violates the spirit of the agency's charter that underlines all countries should be considered equally. He reminded that Iran's Vice-President and Head of Atomic Energy Organization in a letter to the IAEA director general last week officially declared Iran's readiness to invite deputy director general of the agency to hold talks in a bid to remove any kind of vagueness. But, he added, the director general unfortunately ignored such valuable act. Soltanieh underlined that Iran as a responsible country will never compromise its rights and will act upon its NPT commitments, but at the same will reply to the historical mistake of the director general by cooperating with others countries. He stressed that Iran will never allow the agency to be used as an 'instrument' and to be transformed into a sub-branch of the Security Council. The Iranian envoy further stressed that the Non-Aligned Movement member states, Russia and China will definitely not ignore such a behavior by Mr. Amano.
