Abu Dhabi - WAM

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) held an event to recognize all staff working on ENEC's preferred site in Barakah for their commitment to maintaining the highest standards in safety and performance as they carry out preliminary works for the UAE's first nuclear energy plants. Ten employees were recognized for their leadership and commitment in developing a strong safety culture. An additional 64 employees were recognized for their special contribution and performance relating to safety. Mohamed Al Hammadi, Chief Executive Officer of ENEC, said: "The most important priority at ENEC is building and strengthening our safety culture. I am proud of the commitment demonstrated by the full team who are working to deliver a nuclear energy program for the UAE that sets a new benchmark for safety, quality and efficiency." The event was attended by senior members of the ENEC management team, ENEC's Prime Contractor KEPCO and 5,000 site staff. ENEC fosters an internal Safety Culture. The overarching priority is to ensure the safety of the UAE community, ENEC employees and the environment. Employees are encouraged to raise any safety concerns or identify areas for improvement. All employees are empowered to issue a "stop work" order if they believe a situation is unsafe. This rigor promotes a culture of continual improvement and promises excellence in creating and sustaining a safety conscious work environment. The UAE has adopted the most rigorous standards of safety, transparency and non-proliferation in its approach to the development of its peaceful civil nuclear energy program. The UAE's approach to nuclear energy has been praised by experts around the world as the "gold standard" for countries interested in exploring nuclear energy for the first time.
