Bahraini Works Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf
Manama - BNA

Works Minister Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf revealed that all sewage flows in Muharraq have been transferred to the new Muhharaq Plant; eliminating the need to transfer sewerage water from Muharraq to Manama and then to Tubli Plant.
According to the Minister, 17 stations have been connected to the plant until the moment, with the aim to connect the remaining stations during the upcoming few months. Such projects are supported by HRH the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa; directing ministries to provide proper infrastructure projects to the people of Bahrain.
‘The transfer of flows to the new plant has reduced pressure on the present stations and networks; especially the pressure on Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant. Flood issues in Hidd and the northern villages in Muharraq have also stopped,’ explained the Minister.
‘The project has also improved the environmental conditions in Muharraq,’ he added. The project consisted of implementing a treatment plant with a capacity of 100,000m3/day, to be increased to 160,000m3/day in the future. The Plant also comprises of a 16km long and 15m deep conveyance system extending from Busaiteen to the plant; close to Khalifa bin Salman Port.
Also, the project includes a lifting station East of Hidd along the Dry Dock Highway, 48 inspection chambers for the conveyance system connecting the existing stations in 32 locations, future connections works at 7 locations and a 1.5km long drainage outlet to the sea; to be expanded to 4 km in the future.
The project, which will accommodate the urban boom in the Kingdom, will also accommodate the needs of the entire Muharraq for 25 years.
