Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker
Cairo - MENA

Head of the African Energy Committee Hussein Al Hajj asserted that Africa was in dire need for the Egyptian technical expertise in several fields, especially energy and electricity, terming Egypt as an "important mediator" in the technology transfer to Africa.

In statements to MENA on the fringe of his participation in the Second African Forum For Smart Networks, Hajj said Egypt has made big progress in the use of modern technologies in several fields and could be a linking circle between Western technologies and Africa.

He highlighted Egypt's plans to increase dependency on renewable energy through establishing projects for generating electricity from solar and wind powers, asserting that Africa was keen on benefiting from Egyptian experts in this domain.

Egypt and South Africa are the only African countries abiding by international standards in energy waste at 10 percent only, while such rate increased to 30 percent in most of African countries and sometimes reach 50 percent.

The Second African Forum for Smart Networks continued on Monday meetings under the sponsorship of Prime Minister Sherif Ismail and Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker.

A large number of ministers, experts and specialists from various countries throughout the world are taking part in the event.

Major international companies specialized in the electricity and telecommunications networks, as well as smart networks and systems are also attending the forum.

The conference will discuss the latest in the smart networks domain as well as African and western countries' experiments in this domain.

The event was opened by Shaker on Saturday.
