Cairo - MENA

The Electricity Ministry signed a contract to upgrade steam turbines and heat recovery steam generators at two power stations.

The deal is part of a bigger project aimed at converting the gas-fueled power stations of Al Shabab and West Damietta into combined cycle plants.

The conversion is expected to be completed by February 2017, deputy electricity minister Osama Omran said.

The new steam turbines and heat recovery steam generators, which will cost EGP 2454 million, will be mainly funded by the European Investment Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Islamic Development Bank, Saudi Fund for Development and the National Bank of Egypt.
