London - Arabstoday
A pair of Bengal tigers and rare South African white lions has finally been unveiled to the Karachiites. Unusual rush was seen at the Karachi Zoological Gardens on Tuesday as hundreds of families accompanied by children flocked to see the beasts, a rarity for the city’s 20 million people. The Bengal tigers are being kept temporarily at the zoo and will be shifted to Safari Park in few weeks after completion of specially built cage for the pair. The Bengal tigers had been imported from Belgium while the lions brought from South Africa costing around Rs17 million for the two pairs. Due to the severe heat the beasts are kept in much cooler places and were provided meat and bottled water. The zoo draws between 25,000 and 30,000 visitors every Sunday. The number increased over the last year after the zoo’s former chief, Bashir Sadozai, ordered extensive renovations.
