Abu dhabi - WAM

Saudi Arabia has proven its notable presence at the latest edition of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, ADSW, with over 15 Saudi companies showcasing their latest cost effective and environment friendly products and equipment.

The country has its own dedicated pavilion where Saudi companies like Saudi Arabian Oil Company, Saudi ARAMCO, Chemical manufacturing company, SABIC, Saline Water Conversion Corporation, SWCC, and King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology, KACST, a Saudi Arabian national science agency, have displayed their innovative projects on sustainability.

A spokeswoman at the Saudi Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources, told WAM on the sidelines of the event, which ends on Thursday January 19th, that around fifteen Saudi companies and entities are participating at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

She said that the venue is an excellent place to showcase her country’s latest initiatives in the energy and water sectors, which are part of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 vision, as well as to present environmentally efficient products. "It is a good venue to network and invite investors to look into our new initiatives," she said, adding that discussion on possible collaborations have already began taking place at the ministerial level with various companies.

Speaking about the fuel efficient and environmental friendly car which was on display at the pavilion, Rami A. Bamagain, Research Engineer at Carbon Management Division, Research and Development Centre, ARAMCO, said that the vehicle has the first Carbon dioxide (CO2) capture system.

"CO2 gas is captured with the help of system in the vehicle which then sends it to a compressor and stores it in the car. And when you go to the gas station to refuel the car, you can unload this CO2 which is later on sent to a central location for other uses," he explained.

This technology, Bamagain said, achieves 25 percent reduction in CO2 emissions, adding that the company is still carrying out research on the project to increase the efficiency and reduce the size of the equipment.
