More than 100 researchers, scientists and students will attend the ninth International Workshop on Advanced Materials (IWAM-2017), to be held from 19th February in Ras al-Khaimah (RAK).

The three-day event will host in-depth discussions on fundamental science and applications of advanced materials, including nanostructured materials and nanotechnology. Among these will be 24 talks by world leaders in advanced materials, addressing research topics in developing clean and renewable energy, nanomedicine and a clean environment.

Organised and sponsored by the Ras Al Khaimah Centre for Advanced Materials (RAK CAM) under the general theme "Innovation in Energy Materials," the workshop aims to encourage international research collaboration with RAK CAM in diverse areas ranging from chemical, electronic and magnetic materials to environmental, renewable energy and biomedical applications.

''The programme includes 24 invited talks by a group of world leaders in advanced materials, addressing topics and dealing with research that have the potential for the greatest impact on developing clean and renewable forms of energy, nanomedicine for improved diagnostics and therapy, and a clean healthy environment,'' said Professor Tony Cheetham, Chairman, RAK CAM.

In addition, a tutorial on solar energy, nine student talks and two poster sessions featuring 79 poster presentations are also planned, according to Cheetham.

''We are very grateful to colleagues at the American University at Ras al-Khaimah for reviewing and selecting all poster abstracts. The synergism produced by bringing together more than 100 researchers and students from 18 countries, with research interests in diverse areas of advanced materials, is expected to enhance scientific collaboration, which will take this field a step closer to realising its enormous potential for the betterment of mankind,'' he added.

"This is a unique opportunity, almost unparalleled in the scientific community, for young scientists to interact with, learn from and discuss their current research with a group of world-class scientists from around the world," said Dr Richard Fowler, Technical Development Manager at Stevin Rock.
