National Infrastructure of Geographic Information
Muscat - ONA

The Supervisory Committee for the National Infrastructure of Geographic Information held its 1st meeting for 2015 under the chairmanship of Dr. Khalifa bin Abdullah al-Barwani, CEO of the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The meeting, which was held at the NCSI building today, discussed the executive steps for the preparation of the national strategy of geographic information. The meeting also discussed the adoption of the roles, responsibilities and duties of each party with a review of the national strategy of geographic information, the roadmap and the alignment of the project with international standards and practices. The National Geographic Information Infrastructure project seeks to develop a clear methodology for the national infrastructure of geographic information to be the basis for the operations and procedures on which the Government agencies depend in the planning of service projects with the technical, legal and technological standards and frameworks in a bid to facilitate sharing spatial data among the respective government agencies. The project also serves to provide the appropriate standard mechanisms to ensure identification of available, easily and safely accessible spatial data. The project also aims at building and deploying spatial applications and services to support the decision-making, the promotion of spatial knowledge and raising the efficiency and training for all groups working in the field of geographical information.
