The UAE State of Energy Report
Abu Dhabi - WAM

The Ministry of Energy launched 'The UAE State of Energy Report 2016', prepared in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Dubai Carbon, during the World Future Energy Summit which concluded yesterday in Abu Dhabi.

The annual report is the leading benchmark publication on the country's energy sector. Launched first in 2015, the UAE State of Energy Report was developed to bring together industry thought leaders and to support the sustainable development of the country's federal energy sector.

In a statement, the ministry said this year's report shed light on the sectors of energy, renewables, petrochemicals, transport, industry and economy. It featured five new chapters on climate change and the interconnection between energy, water and consumers.

Minister of Energy, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Al Mazrouei, said the report is part of the UAE's contribution towards international efforts focussed on reducing the carbon footprint and Co2 emissions.

He noted that the report highlights the UAE's efforts to diversify its energy mix and incorporate clean energy and efficient solutions.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy, Mattar Hamed Al Neyadi, noted that this year's report addresses the interconnection between the energy and water sectors.

He added that the ministry seeks to strike the required balance in the two sectors while preparing the UAE 2036 energy strategy and the UAE 2036 water security strategy, expected to be submitted to the cabinet this year.

Fatima Al Foora Al Shamsi, the Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Electricity, Clean Energy and Desalinated Water Affairs, noted that the data provided by the report helps in developing and amending energy policies and trends and specifying opportunities for developing the sector and achieving sustainability.
