GCC meeting on meteorology Sunday

Directorate General of Civil Aviation here is due to host tomorrow (Sunday) the fifth meeting of the GCC Standing Committee on Meteorology and Climate Change, an official said on Saturday. Over a period of two days, the meeting of GCC climate and aviation experts, will discuss, among other things, effects of dust storms on the climate in GCC states, implementing a memorandum of understanding on climate-related issues between GCC states and China, and the possibility of adopting a Kuwaiti proposal for the establishment of a unified GCC center for tracking weather changes in the region, said Muhammad Karam, director of meteorology at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in Kuwait, in a statement to the press. Furthermore, the meeting will also consider the establishment of a marine weather forecasting center in Qatar and a weather early warning center in Oman, said Karam, noting that the meeting will discuss the feasibility of linking weather radars in GCC states together with access to the committee's Web Site on the Internet. The meeting will moreover discuss a Kuwaiti proposal on streamlining services offered by civil aviation's weather forecasting capabilities, and boosting cooperation between GCC states and the World Meteorological Organization, he said
