A GCC senior officials' meeting that kicked off here on Tuesday is part of cooperation aiming to protect people and preserve the environment in the member states, a senior Kuwaiti official has said.
Sustainable development cannot be realized without initially achieving environmental sustainability, Acting Director-General of the Environment Public Authority (EPA) Rajaa Al-Busairi told the 34th meeting of the GCC ministry undersecretaries for environment affairs.
She highlighted the vision by the bloc's leaders, who spare no effort for promoting their countries and peoples.
According to Al-Busairi, the items and draft resolutions on the agenda to be discussed as well as the recommendations to be issued, will be submitted to the GCC environment affairs ministers.
Two major items put forward for discussions are establishing an environment observatory and launching an environment e-gate for the GCC countries.
These are integrated ambitious projects likely to assist decision-makers reach the proper resolutions, Al-Busairi said, referring to cooperation programs with regional and international organizations to benefit from expertise, Al-Busairi said.
Addressing the gathering, Assistant GCC Secretary General for human affairs and environment Abdullah Al-Hashem, commended His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Saba, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti government, as well as other GCC leaders and senior official, for their support to joint action in all fields.
He also conveyed wishes of success for the meeting on behalf of GCC Secretary General Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani .
Al-Hashem underscored the progress achieved on terms of GCC joint environment work, as several projects have been already came to life.
He referred to more projects to be addressed by today's meeting.
