The 27th meeting of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) ministerial committee on electricity and water cooperation came to a close on Tuesday after agreeing to coordinate policies relating to electricity and water security.
Kuwaiti Minister of Public Works and Minister of Electricity and Water Abdulaziz Al- Ibrahim, the chair of the meeting, commended the growing cooperation and coordination among the six GCC member countries in this field under instructions of the GCC leaders.
"The committee is playing a key role in boosting cooperation by adopting a number of policies and plans in electricity and creating measures aimed at achieving water security and developing electricity sector," Al-Ibrahim said in his address to the meeting.
"Most outstanding of the achievements made so far is the GCC electricity linkage project supported by leaders of the GCC," he said, indicating the scheme's first phase got the green light from the 30th GCC summit in Kuwait in 2009.
"We always look forward to achieving further accomplishments to develop and make progress in the GCC countries in order to meet peoples' aspirations," he added.
Al-Ibrahim said that the meeting discussed many important topics, including electricity and water linkage, water strategy and other issues.
He affirmed that the next period needs more cooperation to strengthen capabilities of our countries in the framework of facing challenges and achieving sustainable development to meet our demands.
Al-Ibrahim thanked the GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif Al Zayani and his assistants for their attendance of the meeting and support to the Gulf common action.
Meanwhile, Al Zayani said that the GCC had tangible steps to enhance cooperation in water and electricity as well as efforts to strengthen the GCC integration.
"We work for more achievements in the march towards common prosperity and progress for the GCC countries," he added.
Besides Al-Ibrahim and Al-Zayani, the meeting gathered GCC ministers of water and electricity and heads of competent authorities.
