Khartoum - MENA

Egypt and Sudan renewed Tuesday their commitment to the 1959 Nile Waters Agreement as a reference to the Permanent Joint Technical Commission for Nile Waters (PJTCNILE) to define the two countries' rights on the Nile River issues.

This came during the inauguration of the 155th session of the PJTCNILE meeting held in Khartoum and attended by Sudanese Minister of Water Resources and Electricity Moataz Moussa, Head of Egyptian Nile Water Sector Ahmed Bahaa El Din, and members of the PJTCNILE.

Delivering a speech at the opening session, Moussa said the Nile River revenues have declined compared to previous years which prompts the PJTCNILE to do more efforts to increase them.

Boosting joint cooperation among the Nile Basin Countries is a key factor of the PJTCNILE work, the Sudanese minister added.

The meeting comes in the light of the highly-sensitive local and regional circumstances, especially after three Nile Basin Countries recently singed the legal framework of the cooperation agreement among the Nile Basin Countries, according to the Sudanese minister.

The move propels Egypt and Sudan to search for other alternatives and solutions that could provide a path bringing in all Nile Basin Countries, Moussa asserted.
