Dubai - WAM

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the UAE Water Aid Foundation, Suqia, welcomed Deng Deng Nhial, Ambassador of the Republic of South Sudan, to the UAE.

Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Suqia, and Cilia Adwat Malk Iding, Minister Delegate for the Republic of South Sudan, were also present. The delegation was briefed on DEWA’s successful operations and experiences, the best practices in electricity and water production, and the innovative initiatives contributing to the comprehensive and sustainable development of Dubai.

The delegation discussed the joint projects being implemented by DEWA and Suqia, under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives, to find lasting solutions to water scarcity around the world, such as by harnessing solar power for water purification and desalination, and promoting opportunities for support and co-operation to provide safe drinking water in South Sudan.

Al Tayer welcomed the ambassador and highlighted the outstanding relationship between the two parties, noting that DEWA intended to co-operate and partner with the relevant authorities in the Republic of South Sudan. Al Tayer also briefed the delegation on the most prominent developmental projects and strategic initiatives that DEWA is implementing in Dubai.

Al Tayer emphasised the importance of co-operation to find common solutions to the problems of clean water in poor and afflicted regions. Al Tayer maintained that DEWA adopted the world’s best practices in energy and water generation, keeping in mind the economic, environmental and social sustainability. He also explained the role played by Suqia in finding sustainable solutions and fighting poverty and disease.

"Suqia’s projects aim to find lasting solutions to water scarcity around the world, and to combat poverty and disease, in line with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. We aim to promote the efforts of the UAE, which play a leading global role in addressing the global challenges facing the world, including water challenges, as well as uphold the UAE’s prominent presence in providing support and humanitarian aid all over the world," said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer highlighted Suqia’s role in finding and establishing the most innovative and sustainable solutions to the challenges of clean water around the world. "Suqia studies and explores water purification methods using solar power to meet the growing demand for water, while contributing to the development of sustainable growth," he noted.

The ambassador praised DEWA’s efforts and expressed his gratitude for Suqia’s water projects to provide drinking water to needy communities across the world.
