Abu Dhabi - Arab Today

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters has launched the second phase of the Green Applications Initiative. The initiative caters to all segments and institutions of society in order to maintain the strategic initiative which was launched in 2013 and will continue until mid-2015.

Major General Khalil Dawood Badran, Director-General of Finance and Services at Abu Dhabi Police and Chairman of the Green Applications Higher Committee at the Ministry of Interior, noted that the initiative comes in line with the directives of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, to adopt the best green practices and to preserve the environment.

"It also aims to raise awareness amongst police staff members and the community regarding the importance of green applications in maintaining a sustainable environment for the coming generations. The Abu Dhabi Police are committed to their responsibilities towards the community and are keen to act in accordance with the strategy that seeks to achieve the best quality of life for all individuals," he said.

He added that the initiative includes two phases, and that the first phase has been completed. He said, "The initiative uses modern media, such as social networking, which caters to a wide audience. Graphics have additionally played an important role in clarifying and simplifying the concepts of green applications for a wide sector of the community."

To measure the results from the media campaign conducted through the framework of the initiative, Major Badran referred to an online survey that will be made available to the public in order to identify the achievements of the initiative and the level of awareness for employees and community members.

He pointed out that the initiative will be directed at various sectors of the community and its institutions by focusing on ways to save energy by reducing electricity and water consumption on a daily basis. The simple steps will additionally ease the financial burden of community members while simultaneously improving the environment and preserving national resources.

Concluding, he said, "In its final stages, the initiative will focus on spreading the culture of recycling and highlight its role in preserving the environment, reducing the waste of resources, and taking advantage of wastes through recycling."
