The 2nd Jordan International Energy Summit (JIES2) opened on Monday, with the participation of Egyptian Petroleum Minister Tareq el Molla and Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker.

Jordanian Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, on behalf of Jordanian King Abdullah II, opened the two-day summit.

Speaking at the opening session, Ensour said Jordan attached great importance to developing the energy sector as it has a direct impact on pushing forward economic growth and achieving sustainable development.

The cost of energy imports to the kingdom approaches 20% of GDP this year, he added.

JIES attracted over 300 delegates from the world’s leading energy companies.

The event will be covering investment opportunities in different energy sectors including; renewable energy, nuclear, oil, shale, gas supply as well as updates on the new oil pipeline project connecting Iraq, Jordan and Egypt
