Skiers in North America on a tight budget may want to bypass the West Coast after a TripAdvisor report found that slopes are 33 percent more expensive than the Northeast this year. After tabulating the average cost of a ski trip including a one-night hotel stay, single-day lift ticket, ski equipment and a basic meal of burger, fries and a beer, the TripIndex Ski report found that Durango, Colorado offered the most affordable ski getaway at $214 a day That’s roughly half the overall average and a fraction (one-third) of the cost of a trip to the most expensive destination in North America: one night at Vail will set skiers back $786, or 86 percent above the average. The most affordable Canadian ski destination is Banff, Alberta, where a day on the slopes will cost $324, while Mont-Tremblant in Quebec will cost $466. Overall, the average cost of a ski trip within North America has risen three percent over last season, averaging $422.
