Tokyo stocks surge more than 3%, yen dives on BoJ announcement

Tokyo shares surged 3.21 percent Friday afternoon as the yen tumbled after the Bank of Japan surprised markets by announcing a negative interest rate policy.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange climbed 546.71 points to 17,588.16, while the dollar surged to 120.40 yen from 118.65 yen before the announcement.
