US vows 'unwavering' commitment to strong Afghan ties

US Defence Secretary Ash Carter on Monday vowed the United States had an "unwavering commitment" to ensuring strong ties with Afghanistan.
Carter told a press conference with Afghan leaders the "United States maintains an unwavering commitment to a strong and strategic partnership with Afghanistan," adding the US intended to ask for funding through 2017 to make sure Afghan troop levels are maintained at 352,000.
