US special forces providing help in besieged Philippine city

United States special forces are providing support to the Philippine military as it battles to dislodge Islamist militants in a besieged southern city, the US embassy said Saturday.
"At the request of the government of the Philippines, US special operations forces are assisting the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) with ongoing operations in Marawi," the US embassy said in a statement.
