Cairo - MENA

Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker said Egypt has made big strides in finalizing the executive measures needed for its partnership with Russia in Daaba nuclear plant with an expected capacity of 4800 megawatt.

Addressing the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century held in Abu Dhabi, Shaker said Egypt has finalized all the technical, financial and legal aspects pertaining to the contracts of securing the supply of nuclear fuel, the consultative services of operation and maintenance as well as the management of depleted nuclear fuel.

The minister highlighted the issues relevant to the peaceful use of nuclear energy in view of the state's keenness on diversifying its energy resources and enhancing the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

Shaker is taking part in the conference with a high-level delegation.

He also said that Egypt is one of the pioneering countries which have recognized the importance of nuclear energy and its role in achieving sustainable development especially in the fields of power generation and water desalination.

The objective of the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy is to enable the participants to engage in high-level dialogue on the role of nuclear power in meeting future energy demand, contributing to sustainable development and mitigating climate change, as well as to discuss and exchange views on the key issues related to the development and deployment of nuclear power. It is organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
