Actress Selma Blair reveals she has multiple sclerosis

Hollywood actress Selma Blair revealed Saturday that she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

"I have multiple sclerosis... I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps... I have MS and I am ok," Blair wrote on her Instagram page.

The 46-year-old said she had been diagnosed on August 16 by neurologist Jason Berkley, the brother of actress Elizabeth Berkley.

"I have had symptoms for years but was never taken seriously until I fell down in front of him trying to sort out what I thought was a pinched nerve. I have probably had this incurable disease for 15 years at least," Blair said.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic disease that attacks the central nervous system. There is no known cure.

Blair, who rose to fame in films "Cruel Intentions," "Legally Blonde" and the "Hellboy" franchise, expressed gratitude to friends including actor Freddie Prinze Junior and actresses Jaime King and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

She is currently filming the Netflix series "Another Life," which is set for release in 2019.

Her Instagram post showed her after completing a wardrobe fitting as her character Harper Glass, a task she said was only made possible by the assistance of costume designer Allisa Swanson.

"She carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself... I am in the thick of it but I hope to give some hope to others. And even to myself. You can’t get help unless you ask."

Celebrities rushed to offer support for the actress, with Rose McGowan describing blair as "a stellar being."

"Your truth and honesty will help so many. Blessings on your journey," the MeToo activist and actress tweeted.

"Damn, it’s hard to know what to say, except i’m terribly sorry to hear this, and thank you for your courage and for coming forward, Selma. You’re helping hundreds of thousands of people," actress Megan Mullally, of "Will & Grace" fame, wrote.
