Director Steven Spielberg's historical drama "Lincoln" was nominated for a record 13 Critics' Choice Awards in Los Angeles Tuesday. The film about the last months of the 16th American president's life before he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth is up for Best Picture, Best Actor for Daniel Day-Lewis, Best Supporting Actor for Tommy Lee Jones, Best Supporting Actress for Sally Field, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for Steven Spielberg, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Best Score. Close behind "Lincoln" with 11 nominations is the movie musical "Les Miserables," based in Victor Hugo's novel of the same name about the 1832 uprising in Paris known as the June Rebellion. The big-screen adaptation of the popular stage show and book was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor for Hugh Jackman, Best Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for Tom Hooper, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Best Song for "Suddenly." Writer-director David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor for Bradley Cooper, Best Actress for Jennifer Lawrence, Best Supporting Actor for Robert De Niro, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director for David O. Russell, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Comedy, Best Actor in a Comedy for Bradley Cooper and Best Actress in a Comedy Jennifer Lawrence. The other nominees for Best Picture are "Argo," "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Django Unchained," "Life of Pi," "The Master," "Moonrise Kingdom" and "Zero Dark Thirty." Shortlisted for Best Actor along with Cooper, Day-Lewis and Jackman are John Hawkes for "The Sessions," Joaquin Phoenix for "The Master" and Denzel Washington for "Flight." Running for Best Actress against Lawrence are Jessica Chastain for "Zero Dark Thirty," Marion Cotillard for "Rust and Bone," Emmanuelle Riva for "Amour," Quvenzhane Wallis for "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and Naomi Watts for "The Impossible." Up for Best Supporting Actor in addition to De Niro and Jones are Alan Arkin for "Argo," Javier Bardem for "Skyfall," Philip Seymour Hoffman for "The Master" and Matthew McConaughey for "Magic Mike." Mentioned in the Best Supporting Actress category with Field and Hathaway are Amy Adams for "The Master," Judi Dench for "Skyfall," Ann Dowd for "Compliance" and Helen Hunt for "The Sessions." "This has been a truly spectacular year in film-making and our voters had an embarrassment of riches to choose from," Broadcast Film Critics Association President Joey Berlin said in a statement Tuesday. The winners will be announced live at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards ceremony Jan. 10 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. The show will broadcast live on The CW Network.
