Los Angeles - AFP

Bob Welch, a singer and guitarist with US group Fleetwood Mac from 1971-1974, was found dead at his US home of an apparent suicide, police and media reports said. He was 65. Welch, who launched a successful solo career after leaving Fleetwood Mac including 1970s hits like "Ebony Eyes" and "Sentimental Lady," shot himself in the chest and left a suicide note, WKRN-TV Nashville reported. He was found dead by his wife on Thursday, it reported. The Los Angeles-born musician performed on several albums and tours for the group. He was replaced by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, who helped the band become one of the top groups of its era. Welch -- whose death was confirmed by a Nashville Police Department spokeswoman -- formed the British rock group Paris in 1976. Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie and Buckingham sang backing vocals on "Sentimental Lady." Fleetwood Mac is best known for its 1977 album "Rumours," which has sold more than 30 million copies.
