Funds were raised for children with special needs by the ‘Dutch Night’, an annual community event organised by the Dutch section of the Ras Al Hamra Recreational Centre.

“For the third year in a row, we managed to fund special projects in the educational care programme of Dar Al Atta’a, including refurbishing three pre-schools in rural areas, building two greenhouses at the Al Wafa centre for the disabled in Bid Bid and this year creating a special classroom environment for children with autism spectrum disorders,” a spokesperson said.

“Although organised in celebration of the National Day in the Netherlands (the King’s birthday), it is a truly international festive event at which we welcome guests from many cultural backgrounds and nationalities,” the spokesperson added.

It has been organised for more than 20 years with a different theme every year, and Dutch Night 2017 had about 600 guests.

Since 2015, the committee has set a goal of making a significant contribution from the event’s budget to Dar Al Atta’a.

“The organising committee is pleased to continue its efforts of giving back to the community through its charity initiative. Our annual event will not be possible without contributions from sponsors.

“We are so grateful for being able to count on many contributions over the years, whether financial or in kind, to help us meet our goal of delivering a much appreciated gala evening with a modest budget and maximise the funds available for a donation to a good cause. The main sponsors of Dutch Night 2017 were CB&I, OUA, KLM and SCTSO.”
