Kalimat Foundation for Children’s Empowerment
Sharjah - WAM

The Board of Trustees of Kalimat Foundation for Children’s Empowerment has announced the appointment of Amna Khamis Al Mazmi as the foundation's manager. Al Mazmi, who assumes this position with immediate effect, will head the operations of Kalimat Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing books and reading material for children in underprivileged areas and in global regions affected by crises and conflict.

With the announcement of Amna’s appointment, the Kalimat Foundation’s Board of Trustees have completed the selection of the higher management team of the Kalimat Foundation, which was launched earlier in 2016 as an initiative from Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group and Founder and Chairperson of Kalimat Foundation for Children’s Empowerment.

Amna Al Mazmi holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the American University of Sharjah. Having held senior positions in both the public and private sectors, Al Mazmi has outstanding abilities in management, marketing and sales. In 2013, she received the Tamaiaz Award, which recognises innovations by young Emirati nationals under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai.

Al Mazmi’s proven determination, persistence and ability to overcome challenges will be utilised in her humanitarian role that will see her serving children who struggle to gain access to education and knowledge. It is anticipated that her administrative experience and managerial skills will contribute to building a highly-qualified team capable of realising the foundation's vision, mission and goals and implementing its programmes and initiatives aimed at empowering children and young adults worldwide.

Ms. Al Mazmi expressed her gratitude and pride at being appointed to lead an organisation entirely dedicated towards improving education and knowledge acquisition for the less fortunate children around the world. She also pointed out that her duties as well as the foundation’s responsibilities will be greater this year. This is because the organisation’s mandate to empower children with better access to knowledge is in line with President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s declaration of 2017 as the Year of Giving, to establish the nation as a more effective provider of humanitarian services in all its forms to countries across the globe.

The Kalimat Foundation is a non-profit organisation that strives to facilitate easy access to books for refugee children and young people residing in densely populated areas and in countries affected by strife and conflict. It equips public libraries in these areas with books and other reading material and conducts workshops, seminars and therapy-based reading sessions to help alleviate psychological distress. The foundation also works to provide books for special groups of children around the world who have difficulty reading, in particular children who are visually impaired.

The Kalimat Foundation is chaired by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, with Sheikha Jamila bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Director-General of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services as Vice President, Isobel Abulhoul, Director of the Emirate Airline Festival of Literature as Secretary-General, Majid Jafar, CEO of Crescent Petroleum as Treasurer and Lana Z. Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations, as board member.
