Federal Supreme Court hears state security cases

The Security Division of the Supreme Federal Court, presided over by Justice Mohammad Al Jarrah Al Tunaijil, yesterday heard a number of state security cases including the case of Emirati defendant M.A.S who was charged with seeking to join the terrorist group ISIL (Daesh), planning terrorist crimes in the UAE, promoting two terrorist organisations affiliated with al-Qaeda and ISIL.

During the session, the court heard the pleading of the State Security Prosecution which asked the court to sentence the defendant for the said charges.

The defendant denied all the charges against him and the court adjourned the case to 18th January to complete the hearings.

The court also heard the prosecuting witness in another case in which an Asian man was charged with revealing a state secret from his workplace to a foreign state where he supplied the foreign country with information about ship traffic and marine navigation, which would damage the UAE's political, military and economic stature.

The court adjourned the case to 4th January to hear the pleading of the defendant's lawyer.

In a third and separate case, the State Security Division of the Supreme Federal Court sentenced M.A.A, an Emirati national, who appeared in court, to ten years in prison for joining the Abu Al Fidaa Front, a splinter of the terrorist organisation al-Qaeda.
