Manama - ArabToday

His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of Saudi Arabia today held wide-ranging talks at King Saud Palace, in Riyadh.
As part of the extensive programme of bilateral meetings, senior customs officials from both countries, including Bahrain’s President of Customs, His Excellency Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and Saudi Arabia’s Director General of General Directorate of Passports, Maj. General Sulaiman bin Abdul Aziz Al-Yahya and Director General of Saudi Customs, Ahmed Alhakbani today held a coordination meeting to discuss new measures to facilitate increased cross-border trade and movement of visitors between the two Kingdoms.
In response to a directive from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, the meeting focused on the swift implementation of a new Single Passports Link system that will streamline travel across the King Fahd Causeway, as well as new measures to establish an E-Gate system.
The coordination meeting was also used to devise a comprehensive framework to help implement the recommendations around road transportation raised at the most recent GCC summit.
Other areas discussed during the coordination meeting included the development of new vehicle lanes, a proposed upgrade to mechanisms for processing larger transit vehicles, and further measures to increase the capacity of King Fahad Causeway and facilitate increased cross-border trade and movement.
These measures will directly contribute to the shared economic goals within the Vision 2030 frameworks of both countries, leading to shorter waiting times and bolstering the customs sector on both sides of the border.
The coordination meeting is a positive example of Bahrain and Saudia Arabia’s long-standing collaborative relationship that has supported significant business growth in both countries across a wide range of sectors.
