Islamabad - Arab Today

Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Asif Ghafoor on Tuesday said the in-camera briefing to the Senate Committee of the Whole by the army was highly appreciated by the senators.
Talking to media outside the Parliament House, he said, the Director General Military Operations’ briefing to the committee lasted for one hour, following which the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa answered the queries of senators.
He said it was very encouraging to see that all the senators were fully aware about the prevailing security environment in the country.
The senators put very good questions and the COAS gave them detailed answers, he said, adding all the senators appreciated the role of Pakistan Army.
The DG ISPR said it was agreed upon that everyone had to play role in tackling the menace of terrorism.
He said the COAS attended the meeting on invitations extended by the chairmen of two standing committees as well as that of Chairman Senate, Mian Raza Rabbani.
Later, talking to a private news channel, he said parliamentarians warmly welcomed the COAS and other top military officials.
He said briefing to parliamentarians was held with an aim to apprise them about national security issues.
He said the national interest was above all things, adding steps would be taken in the best national interest.
The DG ISPR said that the Afghan war could not be fought on Pakistan’s soil adding, “We want nothing from the US. What we want is that our contributions and sacrifices in the war against terrorism and efforts for regional peace should be acknowledged.”
To a query, he said statements of retired army officers on political matters should be taken as their personal viewpoints.
