Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi
Surakarta - Arab Today

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the fare rates for online and conventional tax services should be on par to ensure fair business in the transportation sector.

"Along with the legal experts, I will study this, and consult the minister of law and human rights to arrive at a legal umbrella for parity in the app-based and conventional taxi tariff," Minister Sumadi said here, Friday.

The minister made the statement after a meeting with Surakarta Mayor FX Hadi Sudyatmo to discuss transportation means from and to Adi Soemarmo airport.

Minister Sumadi was responding to the Supreme Court (MA) ruling that annulled Transportation Ministers Regulation PM 26 Year of 2017 on Public Transportation Service Without Fixed Routes.

He remarked he was surprised over the MA decision, because when he drafted the regulation he had been careful. All parties, including transportation society, were asked to give inputs, and the regulation had been popularized in several regions.

Sumadi maintained that even though his regulation was annulled by the MA, the people should not become restless, because the regulation would still be in force until November 2018.

"So, if anyone imposes very high or very low fare rates, he or she could be taken to court," he stated.

Sumadi stressed the legal experts and he would study, and consult with the ministry of law and human rights to impose uniform fare tariff for ride-hailing and conventional taxi services.

He reaffirmed his ministrys readiness to abide by the MA decision with regard to judicial review on the transportation ministers regulation PM 26/2017.

The ministry of transportation has received the copies of the MA decision on the judicial review of the ministers regulation PM 26/2017.
