Foreign film and television productions invested approximately MAD 280 million in Morocco in 2016, according to a report by the Moroccan Cinematographic Center (CCM) issued on Saturday, March 11.

24 foreign films, produced mostly by English, French, German, American, Italian and Indian producers, were filmed in Morocco in 2016.

The budget for these films amounted to MAD 138.62 million, a slight decrease from 2015’s recorded budget of MAD 143.72 million invested by 20 foreign film productions.

Brad Anderson’s “Beirut” (MAD 34.8 million), Shirin Neshat’s “Looking for Oum Kulthum”(MAD 21.8 million) and Per Fly Plejdrup’s “Backstabbing for Beginners” (MAD 13.6 million) were the most expensive feature films shot in Morocco in 2016.

16 television series were also filmed in Morocco, with a total investment of MAD 116.64 million. “The Legends” (MAD 24.7 million), “Prison Break” (MAD 22.3 million) and “Kabul Kitchen” series (MAD 22 million) are the most expensive television series shot in Morocco.

27 commercials ( MAD 17.80 million) 15 short films (MAD 2.44 million), eight video clips (MAD 1.78 million), 13 institutional films (MAD 1.72 million) and two docuFictions (MAD 1,028 million) were also shot in Morocco last year.

In 2015, the total budget of all foreign productions amounted to MAD 366.39 million, according to CCM.
