Dubai - Arab Today

There will be price cuts of up to 50 per cent on more than 4,500 commodities this month, a conference was told.
The Ministry of Economy is working with the Consumer Cooperative Union and cooperative societies to get the price cuts on a range of items in various markets.
The announcement was made during the 12th GCC Consumer Protection Day held at the Sofitel Hotel in Downtown Dubai on Thursday.
Hashim Saeed Al Nuaimi, director of the Ministry’s Consumer Protection Department told those present that consumer protection was a high priority in the UAE.
Work done by the ministry since last year has seen the minimum complementary car maintenance mileage increase form 5,000km to 10,000km, preventing additional credit card fees when using in trade and government services.
Dubai’s Department of Economic Development said it received 1,230 complaints from customers via social media and other websites.
It had also worked with Telecommunications Regulatory Authority to close several social media accounts that promoted fake products violating trademark and consumer rights.
