Minister of Transportation Hisham Arafat
Cairo - Wafaa Lotfy

Egypt’s Minister of Transportation Hisham Arafat said that he works to execute a new plan to achieve integration between the different kinds of transportation, adding that the plan aims to link between the means of transportation with the sources of production and logistic areas to create new prospects of industrial, agricultural and tourist development.

The Egyptian minister added, in an interview with “Arabs Today”, he will draft new bases to develop the different sectors and to improve the service provided to the Egyptian citizens especially in the facilities of railways and metro. He underlined the importance of these facilities which transfer over five million passengers on daily basis.

He added, “I am not satisfied over the projects to develop the railways and the level of services provided to the citizens, while I promise to develop them.”

“When I took office, I discussed the plans aiming to develop the railways crossing and to improve the stations in addition to the maintenance of the railways vehicles and tractors,” the minister added. He stressed his keenness to improve the sea ports to lead the economic development in Egypt.

He stressed that his major objective is to achieve integration between the sea ports by maximizing the competitive advantage for each port. He stressed that he has not discussed the issue to increase the price of metro tickets although the issue has been raised for over a year.
