Tunisian Professor of Constitutional Law Johar Bin Mubarak revealed suspicions of corruption in some projects, saying that the government has contributed to a tourism project in Gammarth, with 200 million dinars, while the real value of the project is 66 million dinars.
He added, in a statement to “Arabs Today”, that the real estate and tourism company "Marina Gammarth" obtained a building permit from the municipality of Marsa and a license to establish a port of entertainment from the Tunisian National Bureau of Tourism over a year and a half before buying the land in which they built their project.
He stressed that the land was classified as a forest, as it was sold at a mere price of 46.6 dinars per square meter. He stressed that that the license is to build the port on 21 hectares, but the company built the port on 2 hectares in the public sea. More than 200 luxury residential villas have been sold at fictional prices through promises of sale, and included false data.
The Tunisian expert called the government for taking serious steps to restore these properties as soon as possible, as the contract signed between the government on one hand and the company provides the right to the government to restore the project in case of any violations from the company.
He mentioned that, since 2011, Tunisia has been experiencing a continuous worsening of the trade deficit to reach KD 3878.9 million in March 2017 compared to JD 2466 million during the same period of the previous year, and the trade deficit with Turkey increased making Tunisia comes second after China.
He added that, these amounts of money reflects an anarchic manifestation of the Tunisian economy, since the volume of imports approximately equals the smuggled sold goods in the Tunisian markets, and this phenomena is far more dangerous to the economy than smuggling itself.
