Islamabad - XINHUA

At least six troops were killed, ten others injured and three went missing when a large group of militants stormed a checkpost in Pakistan's northwest city of Peshawar early Wednesday morning, reported local media ARY. Ten militants were also killed in the clashes, said local media. According to the local media reports, an estimated 200 heavily armed militants launched a pre-dawn attack at a checkpost of the Frontier Corps (FC), a paramilitary force in Pakistan, in the Kishan Ganga area of Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in northwest Pakistan. Militants used heavy weapons, handgrenades and rockets in the attack, local media quoted security sources as saying. The checkpost was completely destroyed in the attack, said the sources. The clashes, which broke out at about midnight, did not end until 2:00 a.m. local time Wednesday morning, they said. The assailants fled the scene after meeting the fierce resistance from the security forces, said local media. Three FC personnel went missing in the attack and they could have been kidnapped by the attackers, said security sources. All the injured FC personnel have been shifted to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar. Hospital sources said that three injured FC soldiers remained in critical condition. No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
